About Rain

Electronic DJ to Music Artist
Laying her foundation in 2013 starting out as a Trap & Dubstep DJ playing events across Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, from small dive bars in Fairbanks to Anchorage, to big dance clubs like Kremwerk in Seattle, Washington; Alaska Native artist Rain Essex has evolved into fast-paced heavy dance music as she explores crossing alternative & rap style vocals with Drum and Bass & Techno. Rain has opened for artists including Black Tiger Sex Machine, Adventure Club, Dev, Wuki, Evan Giia, Kandy, and more. In recent years, Rain has had mixes featured on C89.5, Seattle’s Home for Dance, as well as curated her own online events for electronic artists during the pandemic called “The Unknown” featuring rSun (US), OLY (US), Kumarion (US), Something (US), Yash Bansal (AUS) Onlythenext (Ukraine), & NotU (Spain). These events raised money for Women for Women International during the US military pullout of Afghanistan to secure safe passage for women.
Alaska Military school graduate, Berklee College of Music Student, and University of Alaska - Anchorage Jazz vocalist, Rain never really fit in the box everyone tried to put her in. “I struggle with many things due to my neurodiversity and fibromyalgia, but music is the one thing that I can regularly put my energy into and has been therapeutic for me in releasing trauma. I hope that as an artist I can create that space for someone to work through whatever they’re dealing with because it’s okay to be yourself, have fun, and look silly - even if it isn't what everyone else is doing”. As an advocate for people with Fibromyalgia & PTSD, Rain talks about her own condition regularly on social media to raise awareness. In 2023, Rain started a women-ran experimental electronic record label called Audio Alt-ar, hoping to create a space for misfits alike in the electronic music industry while creating her own brand as an artist.
